with trend of using blackberry in Indonesia, i come to above question…is it worth to be a blackberry operator ?
well i don’t really have a data on how much an operator need to invenst to their system to be able to implement blackberry system, i also don’t have data on how much the operator gives RIM for service royalty. but for sure it must bu not cheap…
now let’s try to take a look on operator side :
+ how much monthly investment paid by subcribers to have unlimited access to the internet ? i predict around Rp 180k
+ how many users use blackberry services ? i believe it is around 100k subs (Indosat state they have araund 80k subs)
+ so let’s calculate the rough revenue, Rp 180.000 x 100.000 = Rp 18.000.000.000 / month
a very small reveneu for an operator, let’s also not to forget that from that revenue operator still need to share this with RIM for the royalty
so is it worth to be a blackberry operator ?
+ well if you see that from the revenue side, of course not…
+ but if you see it from other side which is brand image, i would say YES it really worth it especially if you are CDMA operator since no CDMA operator in Indonesia that have implement Blackberry services. so to capture public attention, become first CDMA operator that implement Blackberry services will create a WOW effect in market thus will increase the brand awareness for that operator
how about market in Indonesia ?
as Indonesia is islands country where in certain area communication is still a problem i would say for the next 5 years most of the subs will come from big cities only such as : Jakarta, Surabaya, Palembang, Medan, Jogja, Bandung, etc…
how long will it take to make Indonesian people aware with and use data services ?
+ i would say 15 – 20 years…10 years is the optimistic prediction…
