are you using gmail as your email provider ? do you know this hidden tricks ? :)

  • Append a plus (“+”) sign and any combination of words or numbers after your email address. For example, if your name was hikingfan@gmail.com, you could send mail to hikingfan+friends@gmail.com or hikingfan+mailinglists@gmail.com.
  • Insert one or several dots (“.”) anywhere in your email address. Gmail doesn’t recognize periods as characters in addresses — we just ignore them. For example, you could tell people your address was hikingfan@gmail.com, hiking.fan@gmail.com or hi.kin.g.fan@gmail.com.

i really love the first trick, it allow me to identify all incoming emails from groups / certain email simply by define a meaningful name after the + sign when i register and then create rule based on the name after + sign. as example : i want to join a .net groups, so this what would i do :

  • I register my email, i can choose myemail+net@gmail.com. the email itself will still be received in your myemail@gmail.com, no need to create a new name. don’t worry :)
  • create a folder to store the email, example : .net
  • create a filter that will move every email that is sent to  myemail+net@gmail.com to a predefined folder (.net).

voila…now i can organize my email better. thanks google…

i use my friend laptop to bug fixing his code. it is lenovo…

i start to put my hand in the keyboard and type something. i press page up, page down, arrows key and then start to realize there is something wrong with lenovo keyboard….

IT IS HARD TO DO TEXT HIGHLIGHTING / BLOCKING WITH LENOVO

instead of using CTRL – SHIFT – END / ARROW, you should press CTRL – SHIFT – FN – END / ARROW…??? i look the layout again and start to feel very uncomfortable with the layout. this is a non programmer keyboard layout…!!!  so instead , i use mouse to do text blocking / highlighting. from what i saw, lenovo trying to save some spaces in the keyboard to add speaker at the side of the keyboard, but the result was very annoying. i would say NO to use lenovo for programming…

ooo i really love my Compaq….

I just read SWA magazine about best CEO. umm my CEO is there :)   sometimes i wonder how they works when they are on my current level, impossible they become CEO without start everything from zero rights ? :)

well i read the magazine page to page and suddenly i saw one interesting article. it discuss about type of employees. here is the diagram :

Type Of Employee

and the explanations :

  • Truly Loyal : somehow the people in this category feels connected to the company. so they won’t leave for a long period of time
  • Accessible : they don’t look for new job for now but if a better opportunity coming they will grab it. of course after deep analysis about the opportunity and the risk
  • Trapped : this type don’t have a choice to move although they don’t like the job. they cannot move either because lack of skill, under certain contract that makes them have to stay or other reason
  • High Risk : peoples in this type are actively looking for new job

According to the types above, i would say that i am the Accessible type.. :) god don’t let me be the trapped one, umm but if they offer a very good remuneration, i don’t mind to be trapped…

how about you ?

hi..my name is tommy wahyudi. i work for a telecommunication company in indonesia as a sales automation supervisor. as you can see, sales ? yeah i automate everything related to system in sales.

o really ? umm basically not, i just gave an idea, write a business requirements and then pass it to IT…a simple life isn’t it  ? nahh…you’re wrong, it is as complicated as write a program because you’re dealing with people with no IT background and one zombie mindset :

SELL…SELL…SELL…

and then there you go,  ask them to use your system. it really hard part unless you can convince them that it will useful for them. so basically a typical of sales person when dealing with system are :

- if it isn’t easy to use, sales people won’t use it
- if it’s easy to use, but sales people aren’t getting value, they won’t use it

hard isn’t it ? beside above responsibilty, i also did a little code. i use C#, Nhibernate, SubSonic, Sharepoint, Reporting Service, Analysis Service, Sql Server 2005, Office 2007. if i code then i prefer a simple one, the one that use code generator or template. why ? because like what i say before…

I hate coding…but i live from it…

so in this blog you’ll find how to deal with sales people and what technology that they need, especially in telecommunication industry…
